Testimonial: Phyllis"Like most women, I’ve struggled with weight my whole life. I’ve tried so many diets and fads that seemed to work for a short time, but then the weight returned with its friends & family. I had never exercised regularly and so never really took exercise seriously but just participated because it seemed fun and a great way to make new Friends, (which I have).

I started taking exercise classes thru Fitness Motivators many years ago because my friend & FM Instructor Laura Daniel suggested them. I tried Zumba, Step, Bootcamp, Hustle and Cardio Boxing to see what I liked and what I would stick with. I’m so glad I did because I got to meet Debbie & Donna (the owners) along with several of the awesome FM instructors (Sonia, Kathy, Denise, Amanda, etc).  All of them bring expertise, passion and encouragement to what they teach.  I had fun in all the classes but found I really enjoyed Bootcamp and Cardio Boxing the best, but as I would soon learn enjoying the classes was only part of my journey.

So after taking classes consistently for a while I started to feel better physically and had lots more energy.  At my annual doctor visits my numbers  (cholesterol, blood sugar, etc) were constantly improving too, but the weight was still not going anywhere.  I felt like I was not getting the weight loss results that I wanted because I still needed to make more lifestyle changes.

I reached out to Laura and several of my FM Classmates for help and we started having discussions about other health & fitness changes that I could make. So, I tried a few. I started focusing on the types of food I was consuming and the amounts. I also, started tracking my food daily with the myFitnessPal app and drank more water.  I bought a fitness watch with a heart monitor so that I could see the level of intensity I obtained and the calories burned during each class.  Several of my FM Classmates did the same thing and that along with their smiles and words of encouragement was a great motivation for me.

The weight started coming off. 1 or 2 lbs at a time has led to over 40 lbs gone.  Even though I still have a ways to go along this lifelong journey of health & fitness I am loving where I am today with my mind & body transformation, and the added bonus of shopping for smaller size clothing is so much fun! Kim Miller Before and After Photos"Starting point June 2012.  Weighing in at 197lb, and only 5ft 5in.  I just gave birth to my second child, a baby boy.  I am overjoyed to welcome this gorgeous little man, Brandon into our family.  I don't even notice how overweight I am.  Until I have to return to work, and it is no longer acceptable for me to wear sweats daily.  So, I trek to Kohl’s to get some semblance of a wardrobe before I have to return to work.  I leave Kohl’s with two pairs of dress slacks (size 16) yikes, a dress, and a few tops.  Between the births of my two beautiful children I had managed to put on 50lb, yes 50lbs!  I was DEPRESSED.

August 2012, I am forever grateful for Brooke Makhool at my work for recommending a Zumba class that she found on Groupon, because she had never done it before and wanted someone to go with her.  I needed something, anything to get me moving again, and boy was I worried that I would even be able to move like I used to with the 50lbs that I had stacked on.  I decide to give it a try.  This is how I met Christina.  I have never had so much fun exercising.  I was officially addicted to how it made me feel.  I began attending Zumba weekly, and after a year of this I had managed to lose 26lbs.  This was my "me" time that I had carved out so that I could get back to being me. 

Turning point January 2014, Christina mentioned she would now be offering personal training. By this point I had been stuck at my 26lb weight loss for three months, and I couldn't get past the plateau.  I was nervous about what personal training would do, but I thought I would give it a try. 

I met with Christina on a Tuesday, she did an assessment of my fitness level up to that point, and then she broke the news that I would have to report everything I ate and drank to her EVERY day, through myfitnesspal logging app.  This was something I had never done before, and I was embarrassed to report the iced cookies that I had eaten for breakfast, and my general lack of breakfast most days.  On assessment day we set a goal, and a target date.  Mine was March 2014, because I had a Jamaican vacation planned for early March.  So, I logged and I exercised and I exercised and I logged, and before I knew it the week before my vacation had arrived. 

I am happy to report that I wore a bikini on that vacation, and I almost started crying when I weighed in just pounds away from my goal.  We kept going though, even after my vacation, and I am now in single digit sized clothes (size 8).  I am so incredibly happy, and I feel amazing.  I am healthy, strong, toned.  I lost 23lbs in the 3-4 months I trained with Christina.  But I credit her for my amazing 50lb weight loss as she has seen me through the entire journey. 

Christina is an amazing, inspiring, wonderful fitness trainer, and I even consider her my friend.  She pushed me to reach new heights.  I am forever grateful for her help, because I never thought I would be myself again after my children.  It turns out I'm not myself, I am an even better version of myself and I have reached beyond what I ever thought I could.  I am a beautiful, strong, healthy woman, mother, and wife.   I am so proud of what I have been able to accomplish with her encouragement and support, and I feel amazing (I know I said that a lot, but it's true).” - Kim

"In August, 2012, I started looking for ways to jump start my weight loss. I needed some regular physical activity and walking on the treadmill every day got old fast. I checked the 2012 Fall Special Services schedule and found the Fitness Motivators classes. I enrolled in the Monday Z-Box class and the Wednesday Zumba class, both at Jon Grant Community Center. When I went to the first class, my worries that I wouldn’t be able to keep up were immediately put to rest. Not that I could keep up - I couldn’t. But I soon learned that keeping up wasn’t the point. The point was to keep moving and have fun while doing it. Since that first class, I’ve attended other Fitness Motivator classes, including All-level Boot Camp and Cardio Boxing. By sticking with a sensible diet and regular exercise, including the Fitness Motivators classes offered through Farmington Hills Special Services, I have lost over 60 pounds, and I’m still losing. The regular workouts I get in the classes offered by Fitness Motivators have been a key part of my weight loss program. The Lim Twins, Laura Daniels, and the other class instructors make working out fun. I get all the credit for doing the hard work of eating right and working out to lose over 60 pounds, but I credit Fitness Motivators for helping to make it a lot more fun. "I started going to Fitness Motivators after my oldest daughter was about 1 or 2 yrs. old and needed to get back into shape & start exercising again……she is now 27 years old so that would have been around 1987 or 1988ish. "In a few months I will 67 years old. I have been in Cardio Boxing and All Level Boot Camp classes at the Costick Center in Farmington Hills for at least 14 years. I was in another fitness program before joining Fitness Motivators and it was okay but a little too dance oriented for me. The exercise and music were the same for the entire eight week session. I find the Fitness Motivators classes to be different every week and a lot of fun. I am pretty spry for my age and I feel good. I directly attribute my fitness to my workouts at the Costick Center and Laura and Sonia's teaching expertise. These ladies are good and in great shape! I have abs like a rock and encourage my grand kids to take a good shot at my gut as long as I know it's coming. I also have three daughters who make a big deal of trying to keep up with me on bike rides. In the summer months I try to ride at least 20 miles a week in addition to my exercise classes. "I am a former student of yours, Gale P. I used to take the cardio boxing with my friend, Loretta, about 4 years ago. We just loved it. You [Debbie] probably don't remember me.
